Sacraments Overview

Anointing of the Sick

Jesus came to heal the whole person, body, and soul. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is a spiritual healing by which the sick person receives the Holy Spirit’s gift of peace and courage to deal with the difficulties that accompany serious illness or the frailty of old age.

Baptism

By Baptism, we become members of the Church, the Body of Christ. In Baptism, the Holy Spirit moves us to answer Christ’s call to holiness. In Baptism, we are asked to walk by the light of Christ and to trust in his wisdom. We are invited to submit our hearts to Christ with an ever deeper love.

Baptism classes are held in English and Spanish each month. Please call the Office of Faith Formation to register for the class of your choice. When you have completed the course, you will be able to select the date for your child's baptism. Please note that children over seven years of age are considered adults in the Church’s eyes and can only be baptized through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. This process takes place over two years and is completed at the Easter Vigil. This is the only time at which adults can be baptized unless there is a danger of death. Please contact the Office of Faith Formation.

Confirmation

Confirmation deepens our baptismal life that calls us to be missionary witnesses of Jesus Christ in our families, neighborhoods, society, and the world. We receive the message of faith more deeply and intensively with great emphasis given to the person of Jesus Christ, asked the Father to give the Holy Spirit to the Church for building up the community in loving service. Click here to learn more about Confirmation.

You must register with the Office of Faith Formation. The preparation for Confirmation is a two-year process.

Eucharist

Jesus gives himself to us in the Eucharist as spiritual nourishment because he loves us. Click here to learn about the true presence of Jesus in the Sacrament of the Eucharist.

The preparation for First Communion is a two-year process.

Holy Orders

Those who seek priesthood respond generously to God’s call using the words of the prophet, “Here I am, send me” (Is 6:8).  This call from God can be recognized and understood from the daily signs that disclose his will to those in charge of discerning the candidate's vocation. Click here to learn more about Holy Orders.

Marriage

The Sacrament of Marriage is a covenant, which is more than a contract. A covenant always expresses a relationship between persons. The marriage covenant refers to the relationship between the husband and wife, a permanent union of persons capable of knowing and loving each other and God. The celebration of marriage is also a liturgical act, appropriately held in a public liturgy at church.

The Diocese of Orlando requires six months’ notice before a wedding. Please contact one of the priests to begin the process. You will need an updated (current) of your Baptismal Certificate. If there is a need for an annulment for either party, no date can be fixed until the annulment has been granted.

Penance

Penance is an experience of the gift of God’s boundless mercy through confession of our sins. Confession frees us from our sins, but it also challenges us to have the same kind of compassion and forgiveness for those who sin against us.
